A Gate at the Stairs by Lorrie Moore – leave it at the gate.

A Gate at the StairsA Gate at the Stairs by Lorrie Moore

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I read this book through to the end because I was on a plane and I had nothing else to read. On two occasions (only two), I cried. I was touched by the lovely and sad story lines described in those four pages. The rest of the time, I found myself endlessly asking, “What the hell is she talking about???”  Moore’s writing is great in small doses. She is well known as an accomplished essayist.  This novel, however, is frought with complicated metaphors and lack of direction.

Pass this one up.
