Room by Emma Donoghue

RoomRoom by Emma Donoghue

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was one of the most unique books I have ever read. The narration of the story, told from the perspective of the 5 year old main character Jack, is so real and so compelling that I was certain it was a true story. I checked the cover twice to be sure that it was fiction.

It just so happened that I received this book from paperbackswap.com (click here to get more info on that wonderful website) on the same night as the Jaycee Dugard interview. While Ms. Dugard’s story is not the basis for this story, the similarities are obvious. That said, unlike the real-life experiences of Ms. Dugard, ROOM is seen through the eyes of a child who knows no other life than the one he has lived in captivity. It is spell-binding. I only put it down one time to get some sleep, but eagerly picked it up again last night and devoured the rest.

This book will stick with you.
